Tragic Update on Cargo Plane Crash: Death Toll Climbs to 13

The number of lives lost resulting from the freight aircraft which ignited and plummeted has now climbed to 13, according to latest reports.

City Leader's Remarks

“On my way to the Teamsters’ candlelight gathering, I was informed of a thirteenth victim that passed away as a consequence of the plane incident,” expressed the municipal leader in a online message. “My prayers is with the families, friends and peers of all who were killed in this week’s calamity. We will endure this as one.”

Victims Identified

A release from the carrier identified the flight crew on board the jet as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies go out to all UPSer who has been affected and all in our community area – supporting you and ensuring you receive the care and aid you need is our priority,” the company’s communication stated.

Investigation Updates

National authorities announced that the jet’s left wing ignited and an engine fell off just after takeoff from the aviation hub, causing the plane to plummet and erupt into a blaze.

The National Transportation Safety Board stated it is probing the plane’s upkeep logs, which was in the state for repairs weeks before the crash.

Flight tracking information revealed the jet was on the runway in the Texas city from the start of last month to 18 October.

“We are knowledgeable that this aircraft was present in that city,” said an NTSB member on the following day, not giving a specific date range. “We will review each aspect of repairs that was done, even the Texas time, right up to the time of the trip.”

Retrieval of Key Items

The pilot’s recorder and data recorder were found, and the power plant was located on the tarmac.

The units – called black boxes – were designed to withstand crash impacts and extreme fire from fires, and they appeared to be intact when located within the crash debris. Officials plan on reviewing recordings from the black boxes.

Aircraft’s final flight details displayed an elevation of 475 feet and a velocity of 210 miles per hour ahead of the impact.

Service History

According to FAA records dated that date, a crack on a part in the tank area required fixes.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which stated it offers structural repairs for the company’s aircraft and runs a maintenance center in San Antonio, declined to speak, but expressed it would cooperate fully when relevant authorities approached it.

Operations Restart

At the same time, the facility services continued last night with its Next Day Air or night sort process, representative Jim Mayer confirmed. Each of the three tarmacs at the aviation hub were also back in operation.

The UPS package handling facility in the city is the organization’s most significant. The center hires more than 20,000 people in the area, processes three hundred aircraft daily and organizes more than a huge volume of packages each hour.

Local Support

A memorial was organized on the night of that date by the regional Teamsters Union, which acts for workers at the aviation hub, the company’s largest shipping facility.

The union chapter, which supports employees, started the gathering with a moment of silence at 5.14pm, the rough hour of the incident two days earlier.

“This tragedy was so abrupt, so unforeseen,” the official told the group of two hundred. “No one had a chance to part to any one of those who we have said farewell to.”
